Adrie studied classical music at the Amsterdam Conservatory, after which he took lessons from Wilbur Little and John Clayton of the Count Basie Orchestra. When he was 24 he joined Boy Edgar's Orchestra, played in Jeff Reynolds' Big Band and from 1981 - 1988 with the Dixieland Pipers led by Bert de Kort. He also played with the sextet of clarinettist Jan Morks, Mennos Daams' Quartet and as conductor with various big bands (Big Band Amsterdam, Zeppos' Big Band, Caledonians Big Band and Biggles Big Band Amsterdam).
Since 1988 Adrie plays the double bass with the Dutch Swing College Band and as band leader he also conducts Biggles Big Band Amsterdam.
He recorded with the Dutch Swing College Band, Menno Daams, Spiegle Willcox, the Dixieland Pipers, Jan Morks' Jazzmates, Zeppos' Big Band, Marcel Salomon, Biggles Big Band, Flashback Quartet, Hollywood Saxophone Project and various groups under his own name.
With the Dutch Swing College Band he won the Special Appreciation Award (North Sea Jazz festival) as well as the Dutch Export Award.
Adrie played the bass with a.o.
